Meis Island
Meis Island, in other names Castellorizo, is a small and cute island town in Greece territorial at the Mediterranean Sea. I even cannot say across Kaş, cause it is so close to Kaş that it would be better to say at Kaş coastal. It is only 1.300 m. far from Kaş. The meaning of Meis, whose spelling in Greek is Meigist is meant to be eye. As a matter of fact, our Kaş (which means eye brow in Turkish) surrounds the island like an eye brow. In other words, eye and eye brow (Kaş-Meigist).
This island, which is just across Kaş, but almost interpenetrated with Kaş, hosts thousands of local and foreign tourists with its cute atmosphere and magnificent nature. The native population of the island is mostly consist of old people. As it is well known, for the continuity of existence in the island a specific allocation is given to the residents by the State of Greece. During winter, the population of the island is around 500-600. During summer, this number reaches to 1000-1200 people. The residents of the island supply their personal needs by shopping in Kaş, where they come every Friday. The relationship between the residents of Kaş and Meis Island is so nice and friendly that it sets a good example for both countries.
